Findaway Voices Narrator Profiles

Findaway Voices, the the world's largest network of audiobook sellers, is creating a two-sided marketplace for authors and narrators to create audiobooks together. The first phase of this marketplace is the launch of narrator profiles, which will be released end of July.

We can’t show everything yet, but check out what we can show so far!

The problem

Of the 9,000 narrators we have registered at Findaway Voices, only 900 are actively booking jobs. With our new two-sided market coming in the future, we need to be able to open up our pool of narrators so authors and narrators can interact freely without the Customer Experience team’s help. The narrator profile page is the first phase of the Voices Marketplace.

For a successful narrator-side of the marketplace, we need to:

  • Allow narrators to create a public profile to share with their network

  • Give users comprehensive features that meet our competitors’ standards, and become the alternative to narrator profiles

  • Allow authors to manually add narrators to their audiobook casting lists

Narrator Profile design

After researching what other narrator profiles look like in our industry, we knew we needed to focus on customization. We want to give a marketable, eye-catching space for industry-know narrators, and those who are just starting out. Our narrator profiles allows customization within every section to tailor the needs to every narrator.

Making it fun: The profile creator

Creating a portfolio of your work can be a daunting task. We wanted to make the experience of creating our portfolio delightful, and give industry advice along the way to create the best profile. The Profile Creator does just that — a step-by-step guide for narrators to fill out each question to build their new profile.

User Testing Round 1

We conducted a 5-person closed beta test. Me and my teammate conducted individual interviews over Zoom, where we’d ask users to share their screen and create a portfolio with our new design. I created an excel doc and pass/failed every feature of the session, to score how well our design did.

Our first round of testing had 31/100 tasks performed successful, which resulted in a 69% success rate.

A sample of the user testing excel document. While rewatching our interviews, if a user did not pass a feature, I would color the cell red and note their feedback. This at a glance view helped us determine patterns quickly.

Implementing user testing feedback

We are currently implementing our first round of beta testing feedback. Some key takeaway from our testing will focus on improving:

  • Language — not all narrators understood the industry language we use. We are focusing on creating a more accessible, inclusive language so all levels of narrators can use our tool.

  • Better UI for asset creation — many users could not figure out profile customization like adding in a gradient to their profile, adding in a profile banner, and adding in their own audio introduction. We are improving our UI to allow all levels of tech users successfully use all our features.

We are so proud and excited for this project to see a launch soon, stay tuned for more to come!
