My role
iOS and Android App Design
Conduct user testing sessions through the Booklab app
Deliver testing feedback to development team
The ask
Costco requested a listening-app experience for users to use when they’ve purchased their audiobooks.
For us to successful launch, we needed to:
Updated our current white label app, Booklab, that all our partners use
Update branding to match Costco’s style while creating a first digital media experience for Costco
Journey mapping
First, I created a map of all app states within the Costco Audiobooks app. User flows included account sign up, forgotten password, settings, navigating the Library page, and listening to a book.
Testing with Booklab
We first updated our white label app, Booklab. This enabled us to test internally, and when testing became successful, we could not only incorporate these changes into Costco Audiobooks, but implement them to all our partners’ listening apps.
We asked all Findawayers to use Booklab to gain feedback. Some major pain points we worked on included:
Improved UX writing — our onboarding and instructions were not clear to users. We updated to help ease the buying to listening experience from Costco.com to Costco Audiobooks.
Updated non-active menu styling — multiple users assumed the “Downloaded” tab within their Library was disabled, when in reality it was an active link waiting to be tapped. We updated this color styling to darker font.
The Future of Costco Audiobooks
Our launch of our iOS and Android Costco Audiobooks app was released this spring. Since then, we have tripled the amount of audiobook offerings within the store. Browse our collection here.
